Jakarta, COTEKNO.COM – As we all know, Samsung is the leader in the foldable phone category after launching several new foldable devices. After that, several other smartphone vendors also competed to launch similar products, and now Google Pixel is a smartphone brand that will then present folding screen phones.
Then now, a recent report from Korea reported that Samsung will supply ultra-thin glass (UTG) to other smartphone manufacturers, and that Samsung’s first target is the Google Pixel folding screen phone which is currently in development. Keep in mind, however, that so far, Samsung Display has only supplied Ultra-Thin Glass exclusively to Samsung Electronics.
In order to smooth out its plans to expand its folding screen business, the South Korean giant finally decided to sell UTG to another company. It is said that the company will start sending UTG to other companies in the second half of this year.
For those who don’t know, UTG is the world’s first bendable glass and is commercialized by Samsung Display with Dowoo Insys. The thin sheet of glass has gone through several processes that add flexibility so as to increase durability.

A very slick aesthetic impression and a glass display that is able to give the impression of being more luxurious than plastic materials will be the selling points of Samsung’s UTG. The Ultra-Thin Glass, announced by Samsung in February last year, is manufactured using an intensive process to achieve increased flexibility and durability compared to traditional polyimide shutters.
As a side note, keep in mind that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is the first phone to use Ultra Thin Glass as a window covering for its inner screen. In addition, the recently launched Galaxy Z Fold 2 also uses UTG.
As for rumors about the upcoming foldable Google Pixel smartphone, there is no information about the phone’s design or features yet. However, some leaks claim that the device will sport a foldable OLED panel from Samsung Display. While the launch date is still under wraps, it is speculated that the Google Pixel foldable phone will launch at a hardware event in the fall, alongside the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. We’ll just keep an eye on the next information.
