COTEKNO.COM – The 5G network has officially entered Indonesia, and can already be felt by a number of users in several locations. But what is the difference between 4G and 5G, is it only in speed?

With the presence of 5G, the 4G internet network will slowly begin to be evicted. It’s not just about the speed that this new generation of cellular technology offers.

The 5G network itself was introduced in Indonesia on Thursday (27/5/2021). And it will slowly expand its reach to various parts of Indonesia.

5G internet network is claimed to have speeds up to 100 times compared to 4G. The difference between 4G and 5G is not only the internet speed, but also from several aspects. With 5G network technology, it certainly offers better features than the previous generation.

The 5G network has specifications that are far superior to the 4G network. The following is the difference between 4G and 5G, summarized by Suara.com from various sources.

1. Higher Speed

The 5G network is the fifth generation that has a higher speed than the previous generation, namely 4G LTE. 5G speed is equivalent to WiFi.

5G networks rely on new transmission technologies such as antenna array MIMO and carrier aggregation that increase speeds over 4G-LTE. In fact, the 5G network is said to have 100 times the speed compared to 4G.

2. 5G Can’t Reach Many Areas Like 4G

5G networks require more investment and bandwidth. Therefore, 5G network coverage is still not accessible in various areas like 4G networks.

5G internet is only available in six Jabotabek locations, namely Kelapa Gading, Pondok Indah, Pantai Indah Kapuk, Widya Chandra, Bumi Serpong Damai, and Alam Sutera. The reason is, the 5G network requires a minimum bandwidth of 100 Mhz and is contiguous. Meanwhile, it has not been implemented in various regions.

3. 5G Network Doesn’t Support Many Cell Phones

5G technology has the ability to work in various frequencies or bands, namely High Bands (24GHz-40 GHz), Mid Bands (1GHz-2.6GHz and 3.5Ghz-6GHz), and Low Bands (below 1GHz). However, not all providers use the band.

For example, Telkomsel 5G, the provider uses band 40 (40GHz) which works at a frequency of 2300 MHz (Mid Bands). Therefore, not all cellphones can use Telkomsel’s 5G network services.

4. 5G is more efficient than 4G

With high speed, 5G internet network is more efficient than 4G. This is because the travel time for 5G access is shorter than 4G. Stable and faster data transfer speeds will save time and internet quota.

5. Latency

5G network latency will be faster than 4G. Latency is the time to send an SMS to another phone and when the phone registers it receives a new message.

As opposed to speed, which is the time the phone downloads the content of a web page. Even though the time to send and send messages with the 4G network is already fairly low, the 5G network will make it almost zero. This is important because it can support other technologies, such as driverless cars that need to send signals about their environment over the internet to computers in the cloud.

That’s the difference between 4G and 5G, which is not just a matter of internet network speed. With the entry of the 5G network in Indonesia, it opens up many new innovations in the future. (Suara.com/ Lolita, Valda Claudia).
